Hazelnut, Chocolate & Espresso Biscotti

Week 25 | 8.2.2010

A few weeks ago I woke up to a muffin and coffee breakfast that my friend had generously brought over to me. Sweet I know! The muffin was wonderfully memorable, chock full of hazelnut bits, small chunks of dark chocolate, and a smattering of coffee grounds. It was fragrant, hearty and sensational with every bite.

Week 21 | 7.5.2010

Wow, it’s already mid-week and the beginning of July!

Certain foods are dear to me because of how I was introduced to them. From my dad, who is perpetually curious, I first hazarded a sample of sashimi in Hawaii as a child, and over the years we have in turn taken tastes of exotic Asian snacks such as puffy basil seed or fermented rice wine dessert drinks. From my mom I have discovered that root beer floats are best made with scoops of strawberry and vanilla gelato, or that a piece of white toast with butter and sugar is a deceptively simple treat.

Cherry, Chocolate & Hazelnut Napoleon

Week 18 | 6.14.2010

I spent the past week waging war on the blistering heat with ice cream experiments. That leaves me LOTS OF EGG WHITES. Not quite ready to launch into another round of macarons, but a light meringue speckled with some chocolate cake crumbles and toasty hazelnuts might be just the thing. It seems condemnable to rely only on nuts and chocolate when the markets are overflowing with ripe fruit. I’ll find a way to sneak some cherries into the mix.
