Week 52 | March 15, 2011
It’s almost been a month since my last post! Have I stopped baking? No, that wouldn’t be likely. However I have been gaining momentum on a several exciting projects that has been taking more of my time in the past month and months to come. It has been an incredible year. Thank you for your support and sweet comments. I hope to be back soon (who knows, Bakery Bites 2.0).

But first let’s talk Macarons.

Yes, I still make them regularly. If you are interested in placing a special order of macarons please send me an email

Happy New Year! Welcome back!

It’s good to be back in the kitchen at the start of a new year. Scrolling back through the archive of treats I realize it has almost been a full year since I started Bakery Bites. What a year it has been, and more to come!

It is the perfect week to introduce pithiviers. I made a version of these way back in March using chocolate pastry and pistachio cream filling. This time I’ll stick with tradition and pair it with the backstory.

Week 32 | 9.22.2010

I’ve been spending much too much time thinking about homemade graham crackers in the past few days. My dear friend, who can apparently read my mind & mood, invited me to come along to a fire-pit s’more eating event last night. A delicious, toasty & bright evening of meeting new friends and smelling of campfire (and making my pillow smell of campfire…). All this to say I’ve been inspired by meringue, chocolate and a sticky-sweet child’s dessert.

…aaaaand we’re back!

Week 29 | 9.1.2010

Oven is healed! although the thermostat may never be the same again. We’re taking it slow this week, like recovery after surgery.

Yesterday I baked a tray of ultra-decadent chocolate cookies and they transformed from tacky batter to crackly-moist, delicious morsels. Today I sterilized jars for jamming strawberries and I was reminded how hot glass can get without an oven mitt. All good signs. Read the rest of this entry »

Oven Out-of-Service – a Trio of Macarons

In chocolate, cookie, nuts, Uncategorized on August 25, 2010 at 14:19

Week 28 | 8.25.2010
Oh oven, we were getting along so well. I made a batch of macarons for a dinner party, then another, and then another. We were having such a good time together that I decided to make a chocolate granola snack to round out our day-long companionship. But somewhere in between macaron batch #3 and rotating the granola at the halfway point, you gave up on me and turned cold…

One treat per week – Launch!

In Uncategorized on February 25, 2010 at 06:09

Bakery Bites Launch
Hello friends!

I’m sure you’ve experienced my passion for food, feeding people, cooking and baking. With the encouragement of my sister, I’m trying my hand at offering up my baked goods for sale. My plan is to provide students with delicious, unique treats, at student-friendly prices. For my first month trial period I’ll be selling my goods at a discount rate ($1-4!) in exchange for your honest feedback. I’ll supply the edibles, you guys, the commentary. By the end of February, if the response is good, I will roll out the goods at a slightly increased (to cover costs, but still affordable) price to the general public. Invite your friends!

Here’s how it works: Each week I will bake 1-2 bakery bites, such as: cream, fruit or chocolate tarts, small cakes, French pastries – shortbreads, napoleons, & financiers (nut butter cakes)… the works! Some you’ll never have heard of before, but I promise that they’ll all be worth consuming.

I will send out a Facebook and email update to a subscription list on (SATURDAY) with the pastry of the week and a brief description for order by (MONDAY) midnight. Common allergens like nuts will be noted in the description if they are in the ingredients. Feel free to email me for more ingredient details. By (THURSDAY) your pastry will be ready for pick up at Southside location of the corner parking lot of Dwight & College Ave. (The lot borders a pink house & is filled with Zipcar or City Carshare vehicles.) Or you can feel free to come by my Northside apartment later on Thursday afternoon, or by pre-arrangement. Times and details for pickups TBA. (Locations may change if demand grows or better suggestions are offered)

With any luck I will introduce you to some new favorites and develop my skills along the way. I would also greatly appreciate your help in telling your friends in the area about my endeavor. I will offer a free sample along with your order to share with any friends you’d like to introduce to “Bakery Bites”. Just make a note to me in your order and provide their name and email.

Stay posted for the first week of treats!
