Summer is truly rolling in (regardless of how the weather chooses to protest). Classes are finished, the garden is planted, and cherries have made their way to the market! All of these are reason enough to smile.

Week 14 | 5.17.2010

Macarons, macarons.

These darling little bugger cookies have a bunch of despicable characteristics. They are temperamental and inconsistent. Yet in spite of their drama, French macarons, with their nutty shells and creamy, yielding fillings are small mouthfuls of casual sophistication. Plus I’ve discovered after many a batch that they taste a lot better after all the trouble I spend fussing over them.

Caramelized Almond Tartlette

Week 12 | 5.3.2010

I’ve been enjoying my nearly routine switching-off between cake and tarts – there are so many treats to explore of each kind. However I think next week may be a return to the savory side, so get ready.

Meanwhile it’s another week for sweets. I love the combination of almonds and caramel, or caramelized almonds – praline, brittle, toasty in granola, in a recent ice cream I sampled… Almonds and caramel make a happy match.
